It doesn’t matter whether you are 8 or 80 and whether you swim fast or slow, do crawl or doggy-paddle, as long as you can rustle up a team of up to six people, you can take part in this Swimathon.
It is one of the most successful fundraising events in the South West – since its inception in 1988 over £631,440 has been given directly to a variety of locally-based charities. Somerset Sight are lucky to have been chosen as one of the benefitting Charities in 2019
Taunton School generously make their pool available each year for the two days of the Swimathon. Every swimmer gets a medal, and there are a number of trophies to be won for teams raising the most sponsorship money or swimming the most lengths.
Swimathon co-ordinator, Christine Briggs says:
Teams from all over the Taunton community take part in our Swimathon, including Law firms, Accountancy firms, the Hydrographic Office, Musgrove Park Hospital, St Margaret’s Somerset Hospice, schools – and many, many more. It is a real community event, and there is a great buzz. Teams come back, year after year, and they always have a great time.
Taunton School is the main sponsor of this event, together with valued support from Milsted Langdon, Alpha Trophies, Rockwell Printers, Timpson and Lentells Accountants.
Come and join in the Swimathon; it’s the most fun you could have on a cold weekend in February – and you can get a rosy glow by raising some money for local good causes. The 2019 Swimathon is on 23rd and 24th February!
