Our Board of Trustees are responsible for the overall running of Somerset Sight. They all have varied backgrounds and professional experiences, each bringing something different to the Charity
Mrs Bella Flood, Chair of Trustees
Bella trained as a Speech and Language Therapist and her experience included working with stroke victims, people with hearing problems and cerebral palsied children. She moved to Somerset in 2005 to run a small business with her husband and was responsible for HR, the accounts and general administration. She was a Samaritan and a volunteer working with those who have suffered domestic violence, and has had many years of experience as a school governor.
Mr Ian Pinder, Treasurer
Ian is a Chartered Accountant and was a partner in a local firm of accountants for almost 30 years until his retirement in 2015. He has considerable experience of accounting for the charity sector and was the auditor of Somerset Sight for a number of years. Since retiring from paid work, Ian has accepted appointment as a Trustee of several local charities. As Treasurer, Ian liaises with the CEO and the Finance Officer on a regular basis and reports to the Trustees on all financial matters.
Mrs Christine Briggs
Christine has lived in Taunton all her life and worked for the Somerset County Council for most of her working life until retiring at the end of 2012. She worked in Adult Social Care for many years becoming a Registered Social Worker working both at Musgrove Park Hospital and in the Taunton Community Team. Latterly she was a Social Worker for people with sensory loss, primarily working with people with a vision impairment. After retiring Christine became a Trustee with Somerset Sight. She is also a Trustee of two other charities and enjoys volunteering with other charitable organisations in the local area.
Mr Zdenek Gregor
Zdenek worked as a Consultant Eye Surgeon at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London until his retirement 4 years ago and now runs a farm in rural Somerset. Three years ago, he became a volunteer and a trustee for Somerset Sight where he offers the Board of Trustees his expertise acquired during the 42 year career in the NHS, and in Ophthalmology in particular. He regularly visits an elderly service user and guides a young blind runner in local races, raising money for Somerset Sight.
Mr Paul Fellingham
I am retired having spent 43 years working in the Magistrates' Court in various courts across the country, during this time I qualified as a Barrister. I finished my career as Justices' Clerk for Hertfordshire. I became severely sight impaired two years ago which introduced me to Somerset Sight.
