Help & Support

Here at Somerset Sight we know that the right equipment and advice is crucial for you to retain your independence. A liquid level indicator can make the difference between making a hot drink safely and a bad scald. The right magnification equipment can mean you can still read a local paper, look at photos, watch TV or continue with a hobby like craft or needlework. A white cane can mean being able to safely walk down your high street and negotiate your local shop.

There is a huge range of equipment on the market for sight impaired people which is why we pride ourselves on our free and impartial advice.

To ensure that as many people as possible in Somerset can access the equipment and advice they need we offer a Resource Shop at Northfield House, 51 Saplegrove Road, Taunton TA1 1DG which is open Monday – Friday 9am-4.30pm.

The shop is managed by our highly qualified Kate McCallum who has years of lived experience and in supporting visually impaired people in Somerset and is visually impaired herself.

For those who cannot make the journey to Taunton we have a Mobile Advisory Service, which is a specially adapted vehicle stocked with a range of equipment and resources. The vehicle visits over 40 locations across Somerset and is on the road around 200 days a year and run by Donna Cannell who is the Resource Centre Manager.
